History of the Clinic

The clinic had its beginning more than 100 years ago, when Dr. A.B. Hall and Dr. Larry Giovando went into practice together in the then “Village of Nanaimo”, as Hall-Giovando. As other doctors joined them, it became know as Hall-Giovando & Associates. On the retirement of Dr. Hall, the name was changed to Giovando, Cooper, Johnson & Associates, and in 1970, the group name was changed to the Medical Arts Centre.

Teaching Centre

Our clinic conducts training for the University of British Columbia. The physicians in this office believe in sharing their knowledge and experience with medical students and residents in Family Medicine. You may be asked to participate in their training and we appreciate your generosity.

Appointments & Office Hours

We encourage you to make appointments in advance. However, because health problems can arise quickly, we are aware of the importance of easy access to our office. Therefore, you can usually make an appointment and be seen on the same day for urgent problems. Please refer to our Rapid Access Time (RAT) information in the ‘Patient Information’ section. Emergencies will be seen at any time.
Appointments may be made by calling: 250 741 0447 during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Walk In Clinic

For patients who do not have a family doctor or their family doctor is not available, we provide a “Walk In Urgent Care Clinic.” Hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm, Saturday, Sunday & Stat. Holidays (except Christmas Day) 9:00 am to 6pm. For further information refer to our Walk-in-Clinic section of the website.
